Description, goals and expected results

Results achived by the end of the activity period

This project is part of the Church of Sweden region programme for Israel & Palestine 2014-2017. Towards the end of the programme period we have been able to verify the following examples of general or specific results:
-The rights of Palestinian farmers from the West bank have to some extent improved through CoS’s partner organization Rabbis for Human Rights (RHR). E.g. in Yatta, RHR brought farmers rights to access their lands into court, and coordinated with the army in order to prevent the army from blocking the farmer’s access, resulting in a legal ruling enshrining the right of the farmers to access their lands twice a week. The improvement is however fragile-court rulings are often ignored by the army.
-Organized interreligious dialogue and education has to some extent increased the understanding of other religions and other people.
-Organized environmental education and promotion of young people organizing themselves has increased the respect for, and the understanding of, the significance of land for all people during conflicts.
-During 2016, norms and traditions regarding women’s rights have been challenged through the work of CoS’s partner organization.
-Increased knowledge in the European Parliament regarding the situation in the Israel-Palestine region, especially regarding demolitions in Area C.
-Increased knowledge among CoS and partner organizations regarding the issue of shrinking space for civil society in both Israel and Palestine.
-CoS emphasized the necessity of an evaluation of their partner organization DSPR during DSPR’s Round Table meeting in Amman 2015. The evaluation, which at the meeting was decided to be carried out in 2016, aims to further develop DSPR as a civil society organization with a clear right based approach focus. As a result of CoS’s participation in the meeting an open dialogue between DSPR and CoS could be held.
